Located on Portledge Avenue beside the hospital, comprised of three floors including the basement and 22,000-square-feet of space, it houses bedrooms for patients at the cancer treatments or "oncology" center located in the hospital.

When conditions permit, some cancer patients are able to have family members stay with them.

The oncology center was officially named after local physician Dr. Léon Richard.

The project dates back in the planning of officials with the Dr. Georges L. Dumont Hospital to 1970, and the actual construction was started in August 1990.

The center has a basement for radiation therapy, first floor for chemotherapy and ambulatory clinic, and second floor for administration offices, medical records, and library.

Patients from throughout the province of New Brunswick, both francophone and anglophone, use the facilities, as well as patients from Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and St. Pierre and Miquelon.

Cancer patients may sometimes have to be hospitalized in order to receive their treatment.  These treatments are often administered over several consecutive days and cannot always be performed in the Oncology Center.  These patients are admitted to the special oncology unit located on the fourth floor of Dr. Georges L. Dumont Hospital (4-D)

This unit consists of patients receiving radiotherapy and chemotherapy. There are 25 beds including five private rooms.  A large kitchen/living room as well as other quiet rooms have been specially set aside where patients can meet with family and friends.

About

Completely relying on public support and the kindness of volunteers,

" Auberge/Lodge Mgr Henri Cormier"

The hostel is for people who live too far from Moncton to go home from daily cancer treatments.  Patients may go home on the weekends and holidays.  It is surely closed for the Christmas holidays so everyone can enjoy that time with their family.

"As acting director, I (Claude Paré) can guarantee that,100% of any given donation goes towards the  Dr. Georges L. Dumont Hospital foundation in helping cancer patients during their treatments."

Since 1993, the Mgr. Henri-Cormier Lodge is a home away from home for patients and their family members.  The Tree of Hope Campaign helps make a real difference in that patient's life.

When my mom was fighting cancer, words could never say how much I appreciate the help which we had received from the foundation.  Without the accommodations of the lodge, my mom would've had to been hospitalized, Instead, I was able to stay and care for her in her time of need.  Public funding  made this possible.  Please donate.
